New Brand. Bold Moves. Bright Future!

A Bold New Chapter: The Evolution of the Canadian Coatings Association

Over a century ago, in 1913, a group of forward-thinking manufacturers came together to form what was then known as the Canadian Paint, Oil and Varnish Association. It marked the beginning of a remarkable journey—one that would see the organization adapt, evolve, and grow in step with the industries it served.

As the needs of Canadian manufacturers changed, so did we. Over the decades, our name evolved to reflect the times: from the Canadian Paint Varnish and Lacquer Association in the 1940s to the Canadian Paint Manufacturers Association in the 1960s, and finally to the Canadian Paint and Coatings Association in 1980. Each transformation mirrored the progress of the coatings sector and the expanding scope of our work.

Now, more than 110 years later, we are proud to announce the next step in our evolution: a rebrand that reflects who we are today, and the bold future we’re building. Welcome to the Canadian Coatings Association—a new name, a new look, and a renewed commitment to leadership, innovation, and sustainability.

Why We Rebranded: Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future

Rebranding is never just about a new logo or a visual refresh—it’s about clarity of purpose. When we began this process, we took a deep dive into our history, our mission, and the role we want to play in the years ahead.

Our industry is changing—quickly. Regulatory pressures, technological advances, and the growing demand for sustainable solutions are reshaping how coatings are made, marketed, and managed. As the national voice of Canada’s coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers (CASE) industry, we knew our identity needed to reflect this dynamic shift.

The result is a brand that communicates who we are today: bold, modern, collaborative, and committed to a science-driven future.

Built on Legacy, Driven by Vision

One of the things we’re most proud of is the deep, enduring partnerships we’ve built with Canadian businesses. Few illustrate this better than Cloverdale Paint, a Canadian, family-owned company that has been a CCA member since 1916.

“Our membership with CCA reflects more than just tradition—it’s a symbol of shared values and a shared future,” says Darrin Noble, Chair of the CCA Board of Directors and President & COO of Cloverdale Paint. “This rebrand captures the essence of that future: collaboration, innovation, and the forward-thinking mindset that defines the Canadian coatings sector.”

As Darrin notes, the public may not think twice about the paint on their walls or the coatings on everyday products, but behind every can of paint is a remarkable story of chemistry, engineering, and innovation.

A Brand That Reflects Our Purpose

The new CCA brand isn’t just a design update—it’s a strategic move that aligns with our core initiatives. Our updated identity unites our two key pillars:

  • Canada CoatingsHUB: A centralized resource for industry data, regulatory updates, and best practices.
  • Coatings Academy: A forthcoming platform focused on education, skills development, and workforce readiness.

Together, these initiatives support knowledge-sharing, sector-wide innovation, and sustainable growth. Our new look is clean, bold, and dynamic—reflecting the science-forward, circular economy principles that drive the CASE industry today.

A New Era of Leadership

This milestone also marks a new chapter in our leadership, with Dave Carey stepping in as President and CEO. With a background in government relations and association leadership, Dave brings a clear vision for where CCA—and the industry—is heading.

Under his leadership, we are doubling down on our mission to strengthen Canada’s coatings sector through evidence-based advocacy, scientific excellence, and inclusive economic policy. The new identity will serve as a beacon for this next era: one rooted in credibility, collaboration, and purpose.

What’s Next: Be Part of the Transformation

Our rebrand will roll out in phases, beginning with the launch of our new logo and visual identity on July 15, 2025. You’ll first see it across our social media channels, newsletters, and member communications.

Later in Q4 2025, we’ll unveil a fully redesigned website, offering an enhanced user experience that better reflects our vision and services. From regulatory updates to member resources, our new digital presence will be intuitive, impactful, and future-ready.

We invite you to be part of this journey. Share the news. Engage with our content. And most importantly, join us as we shape the next era of Canada’s coatings industry.

Let’s Move Forward—Together

The Canadian Coatings Association is more than just a trade organization—it’s a community of innovators, scientists, manufacturers, and leaders.
