CANLAK — Chemists Creating Quality Customized Coatings

CANLAK

Proud Supporter & Platinum Sponsor of CPCA

The paint and coatings industry has a long history of revolutionary R&D and creating state-of-the-art products that provide measurable improvements such as energy conservation, emissions reductions, and extended life-cycles for numerous products used every day in every household.

Located in the small town of Daveluyville Québec, CANLAK’s manufacturing and R&D teams are making waves in the coatings industry. Starting from humble beginnings with just 3 employees in 1981, CANLAK opened its doors with a mission, “to manufacture high quality coatings that will help our clients answer the industry’s most stringent requirements.”

Today CANLAK has become a leader in industrial wood coatings and more recently was acquired by SK Capital. The combined company will offer a comprehensive portfolio of wood coatings with a focus on offering the highest quality coatings that meet the market’s ever-more stringent VOC requirements with continued focus on quality, innovation and service. Leading the company in its new direction is Robert Jamieson, President & CEO of Canlak. Robert brings more than 30 years of experience in the chemicals industry to his new role, most recently serving as an executive of VersaFlex, a leading provider of specialty coatings, linings and foams. Robert’s experience also includes roles at Quadrant Chemical, Quadrant Urethane Technologies and Carlisle Construction Materials.

With a strong vision for the next five years to build another high-tech production facility, CANLAK’s growth and rapid expansion continue to make waves in the industry. They are creating quality jobs, and customized product offerings with their unique approach. CANLAK provides careful analysis of their clients’ specific needs and challenges. They respond to customer needs with customized substrate-specific coatings solutions that are precisely engineered for their unique requirements and standards.

To add to their growing success, CANLAK has partnered with The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Research Chair to advance R&D and innovation. The NSERC/Canlak Industrial Research Chair in Finishes for Interior Wood Products seeks to position Canada as a world leader in wood finishes. It focuses on the densification of appearance for interior products by establishing an industrial consortium covering the entire value chain, from raw material to end-user, and seeking to implement innovative practices and solutions.

Mr. Éric Vaillancourt, VP of CANLAK and winner of CPCA’s 2018 Industry Achievement Award states, “The research chair allows us to target product developments so that we may offer alternatives and new innovative products [in the] marketplace, which we believe will allow us to distinguish ourselves, as well as allow academics to perfect their knowledge to advance the future of our industry.”

Innovation doesn’t get more real than this. CANLAK is a proud member of CPCA and a coatings manufacturer to watch.
